"Breaking the Silence"
Federal Law
The Federal Law governing the education of children with special needs is known as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 2004.

The U.S. Department of Education has recently created a dedicated a web site which contains specific information relating to IDEA 2004 and discusses its relationship with No Child Left Behind (NCLB).

There is currently (11/2007) pending legislation regarding the full funding of IDEA. For more information, please refer to the following link.

National Education Association

This comprehensive legislation relates not only to special education, but to public school education funding on a much broader scale. The NEA site provides links to a great deal of information on pending legislation.
